Log Requests & Responses - Troubleshooting Device Issues Using Logs

When diagnosing errors especially when you have client side proxies (between the device and AppServer), it is always a good idea to ask where does the request stop. You can answer this by looking at the logs and leveraging your knowledge of the Verivo Architecture Diagram.

Blue Line Represents the Connection from the Device to a Proxy Server.

Green Line Represents the Connection from the Proxy Server to the AppServer.

 

If a user is getting a “unable to connect” error and you do not see the request in your AppServer/AppStudio logs or in your Proxies logs the issue is device side. You deduce this because the first component a request would go to is the Proxy (request will follow the blue line). Since there is no record in the Proxy logs of this request the request did not make it that far. Therefore it is a device or network related issue  (maybe they have no wifi connection etc).

 

If the user is getting a “login credentials incorrect” error and you do not see the request in the AppStudio logs from the server but you do see the request in the proxy logs then the request is erroring at the Proxy level (and the issue is occurring there) You deduce this because the proxy is not sending the request to the AppServer. 

 

These are basic errors however this concept can be applied to all components and use cases.
