Filtering through Parent/Child heirarchy

I am using the rest plugin to access my web services to my back end data. I need the user to be able to filter down through a parent/child relationship. How is this best handled with a web service? (Example of what I need: User chooses a division, user chooses a location inside that division, user chooses a building, and lastly, the user chooses an asset). Thank you for any assistance you can be.

Reading the answer, I definitely understand the solution provided. However, my first choice list I built with static values because there were only 11 . From those 11 values (Divisions), how do I pass the user selection of division, to “narrow selection” on the list of locations (there are over 4000), to ONLY locations in that division. I would then need to pass the location user selection to a list of Buildings. From that I need to pass it to a list of Assets. My hierarchy is Divisions->Locations->Buildings->Assets. Thank you for your help.

    Derek,

In response to your question, there is no way in AppStudio to batch populate those choice lists. You can however, use SQL to insert large amounts of data into that choice list table but this should be performed by a DBA and not by a non-technical person.

In summary, Dependent lookup controls is not supported (which is what I believe your use case requires) but dependent choice lists are supported and we recommend your grandparent and parent lists contain a few values.

    Thanks,

    John
