QR Code Reader functionality

Was just curious about how to properly use the QR scanning capability, or how far along it is since I noticed it says beta... Anyway I followed the steps in the 7.3.13 developer guide under Chapter 8: Specialized Screens and 'Scanning QR code'. I found I am able to make a button with the scan action, and it can scan some of the test QR codes I got from this site:

http://www.printbusinesscards.com/marketing/qrcode/QR-Code-Quality-Standards-Test.php

But there are a couple of things, first off it just says 'Unable to read QR code' for some of them, the ones I'm testing I tested with the free QR scanner app in the app store and they went through fine, so I don't think it's the codes I'm using.

Second, I can't seem to actually set a target screen or view for the control, or for the menu item with the Scan action. So when it does seemingly scan successfully, I can't actually see any of the information because I can't go to the prefilled form screen from the scan.

Third, is there a way to tell exactly how a QR code is formatted? In the dev guide it mentions you need to have the names of the name/value pairs exactly how they are in the QR code, but is there anyway to actually find out what the keys are for the QR code were? (E.G via a log or something?)

Thanks,

Seb

    Hi Seb,

I have set this up in the past using the following URL to generate my QR codes: http://qrcode.kaywa.com/

The trick is to use the URL section and use the exact same column names for the form screen you are navigating to after. For example, if my URL is: name=Scott & email= smilliken@verivo.com , I need to have two column names for "name" and "email" on my target screen for the scan.

    Thanks,
    Scott

I'm curious about why the kaywa QR generator works with Verivo and the Google API does not...???  could you please explain that in more detail?  I followed the instructions in the developer's guide (using Google's API) and I get an error message saying it can not read the QR code.  But, it works just fine with the Kaywa-generated QR code...so, I'm surmising that there are some unique requirements Verivo's scan engine is using and I'd like to understand that in more depth.

So, maybe you can confirm this analysis...it appears that the QR reader requires a "Chart List" of name/value pairs; so, when I use the following with Google's API it works...

https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?chs=150x150&cht=qr&chl=FName%3DJay%26LName%3DWhite (where chl is the 'Chart List', %26 is the '?', and %3D is the '=')

Seems like the Kaywa generator orders it that way for you automatically...
